What this site knows about you, and what it does not.

What we do not collect

• There are no reader accounts and nothing to sign up for.
• There are no forms, comments or newsletter, so there is nowhere to give us personal details.
• The site shows no advertising and sells nothing.
• Fonts, images and styles are served from the site itself. The one script loaded from somewhere else is the analytics tag described next.

Visitor statistics

The site uses Google Analytics to see which pages are read and how readers find them. That is the only thing we use it for.

• What it records. The pages viewed and when, the site or search that led here, and the kind of device and browser. It also records roughly where in the world the visit came from, which Google works out from the IP address.
• Cookies. To tell one visitor from another, it stores cookies in your browser. Their names begin with _ga and they last up to two years.
• Where it goes. The data is sent to Google and handled under its own terms, set out in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services. Google says Analytics does not log or store the IP addresses of visitors in the EU, Switzerland or the UK.
• What we see. Counts and trends. Nothing on this site asks who you are, so the statistics are not attached to a name, an email address or an account.

You can read every page without being counted. A browser extension that blocks analytics scripts keeps you out, and so does Google's own Analytics opt-out add-on. The pages work the same either way.

What a web server records

Like any website, the server that delivers these pages may keep standard request logs. They hold the time of a request, the page asked for, the address it came from and the browser used. Logs like these are used to keep a site running and secure. We do not use them to identify or profile readers.

Links to other sites

Almost every page links out to its sources. Once you follow a link you are on someone else's site, under their privacy policy, not this one.
