This tracker logs dated milestones for solid-state and semi-solid-state batteries. In a solid-state battery, the electrolyte is a solid rather than a liquid. A semi-solid-state battery still contains some liquid or gel electrolyte. The tracker covers events from March 2023 onward. It was last checked on October 6, 2026.
An event gets an entry if it is one of five things:
Each entry says which stage it describes, because a laboratory result, a pilot line and mass production are different things. Targets are marked as scheduled and attributed to whoever set them. Performance figures are the companies' own unless stated.
Left out on purpose: funding rounds, stock listings, partnerships with no production or testing step, patents, academic papers and market forecasts. No entry here records an all-solid-state battery in a car on general sale. The cars listed as delivered to customers use semi-solid-state cells.
Targets set by the organizations named. Dates like these often move.
