What this tracker follows

This tracker logs large artificial intelligence (AI) data center campuses. It also logs long-term electricity deals signed by companies that run them. It covers announcements from January 2025 to October 2026. It opens with the Stargate Project, a new company. OpenAI said the company intended to invest $500 billion over four years in U.S. AI infrastructure.

An entry needs a named developer, tenant or utility. It also needs either a planned size of several hundred megawatts or more, or a stated cost in the billions of dollars. A megawatt (MW) is a unit of power demand or supply; a gigawatt (GW) is 1,000 megawatts. Power purchase agreements are long-term contracts to buy electricity. They are included when the buyer is a large data center operator. The tracker also records notable cancellations and pauses. It records moratoria (temporary halts) such as New York's July 2026 executive order, and independent checks on building progress.

Capacity and spending figures are plans, not measurements. Each entry names who announced the number, and entries dated in the future are marked as scheduled. Target dates that have since passed are given as the source stated them. They have not been rechecked unless the entry says so.

Left out on purpose: company-wide capital spending forecasts, chip supply contracts, funding rounds, and reports that rest only on unnamed sources. The list is selective, not a census of every project. Entries describe what each source said on its publication date.
